Medellín is the capital of the Department of Antioquia and is located in the northwestern part of Colombia’s mountainous region. At 1538 meters (5,046 ft.) above sea level and because of its proximity to the equator, the city enjoys subtropical like climate throughout the whole year and the perfect weather conditions (average of 23 degrees Celsius - 75 degrees Fahrenheit). This earned Medellín the name of "The City of Eternal Spring” or “Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera".
Medellín is Colombia’s second largest city, with a population of approximately 2.5 million people. It is the center of the textile industry and one of the main manufacturing and industrial areas of the country, as well as a commercial flower growing and exporting region. Medellín is a place where foreigners feel right at home due to the friendliness and hospitality of its inhabitants. The city is also known for the beauty of its region, landscapes and women.

Transportation
The José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, a small town in the eastern part of the Antioquia Department, is only 35 minutes from Medellín. Its international terminal serves daily international flights to and from major cities around the globe. For regional flights, the Olaya Herrera Airport, located in the southwestern part of Medellín near Poblado, uses lighter aircrafts and operates from 6 am to 6 pm.
Medellín relies on Colombia’s first massive transportation system. The METRO has not only been a useful and economic addition to the city, but it has also taught the citizens how to share, respect and help each other.
Public Transportation Rates
One way Metro ticket: 1.400 COP (USD 0.60). You can also buy 2, 5 and 10-way tickets at a reduced price.
Taxis: Minimum fare is 3.200 COP (USD 1.45).
Buses and microbuses: Prices range from 1.000 COP to 1.300 COP (USD 0.45 to USD 0.60). They cover the entire city of Medellín and neighbor municipals like Envigado, Itagüi, Sabaneta and Bello. Transportation to other neighbor municipals near Medellín is provided by regional buses and taxis. You can find these transports at North and South Terminals of Medellín. Prices vary depending on the distance of the town.
Metro cable
The Metro Cable is part of Medellin's METRO system and connects the poorest and most difficult to access parts of the city.
