Medellín offers a variety of cultural annual events like the annual Festival of Tango, the International Poetry Festival in June, the Parade of Myths and Legends in December, Festival of Humor and La Feria Taurina de La Macarena (Bullfighting Fair of Macarena), but the most important event takes place near the end of July and the beginning of August, where La Feria de las Flores (The Festival of Flowers) has been celebrated every year since 1957. This festival has unique activities such as antique cars parade, Desfíle de Silleteros (Flower Carriers Parade), the Cabalgata (horse rides down the main streets of Medellín), dance and musical events and shows and much more.
Fashion Events
Medellín hosts many events during the year including two of the most important fashion events in Colombia.
Colombiamoda
Colombiamoda is the most important fashion event in Medellín. It takes place in the Centro de Convenciones (Convention Center) for three days in July (10-12) and it gathers local and internationally famous designers and top models from Colombia.
Colombiatex
Thanks to the quality of expositors, visitors and investors, Colombiatex has become one of the most important business centers of the textile industry in Colombia. The event takes place in late January.
Parade of Myths and Legends
This very particular parade takes place in several Colombian cities and Medellín is no exception. This exceptional event occurs every year on December 7th. The parade features deeply-rooted traditional characters such as the "Patasola", the "Madremonte", the "Sombreron", the "Ruanón" and the "Judío Errante".
BullFighting Fair of Macarena
Between January and February the “Plaza de Toros La Macarena” hosts the Bullfighting Fair of Macarena, an event worthy of visiting, and you don’t need to worry about the weather because the bullfighting arena in Medellín has a retractable rooftop for those rainy days.
Not only does the Macarena serve as a bullfighting arena but also other events during the year, like concerts, religious events, fashion events, and several others.
The “Macarena” has a capacity of approximately 15.000 people.
