Medellin has a natural beauty and as Colombia’s second largest city, is nestled in a valley of breath taking mountains and countryside. It also offers the “big city” activities and a large variety of cultural, educational, and recreational activities such as Museums, concert halls, historic churches, spectacular golf courses, horse back riding, parasailing, Botanic Gardens, Zoo, the most beautiful shopping malls in Colombia.

Medellin has a variety of traditional festivals such as the “Feria de Las Flores” (Festival of Flowers) which attracts visitors from around the world. The “Feria de las Flores” has unique activities such as an Antique Car Parade, “Desfíle de Silleteros” (Flower Carriers Parade), dance and musical events, shows, street parties, the “Cabalgata” in which over 5000 horses ride down the main streets of Medellín (listed in the Guinness World Book of Records), and much more. Other festivals include “Feria Taurina de La Macarena” (Bull Fighting), and the “Los Alumbrados” (Festival of the Lights), a spectacular display of lights during the holiday season.

“La Feria de las Flores” (The Festival of Flowers) has been celebrated every year in the beginning of August since 1957.
Fashion Events
Medellín hosts many events during the year including two of the most important fashion events in Colombia, “Colombiamoda” and “Colombiatex”.
Colombiamoda is the most important fashion event in Medellín. It takes place in the Centro de Convenciones (Convention Center) for three days in July and gathers local and internationally famous designers and top models from Colombia as well as international buyers and visitors from around the world.
Colombiatex
Thanks to the quality of manufacturers and merchants from the textile sector, visitors and investors, Colombiatex has become one of the most important business events of the textile industry in Colombia. The event takes place in late January.
Bull Fighting Fair of Macarena
Between January and February, the “Plaza de Toros La Macarena” hosts the Bullfighting Fair of Macarena and some of the world’s best bullfighters, an event worthy of visiting. You don’t need to worry about the weather because the bullfighting arena in Medellín has a retractable rooftop for those rainy days. There are also several bullfights during the Flower Festival in August. The “Macarena” has a capacity of approximately 15,000 people.
Christmas Lights (Alumbrados)
“Los Alumbrados” (Festival of the Lights) is a spectacular display of lights during the holiday season.
